Fast and Pipeable Airborne LiDAR Data Tools

lasR is a free and open-source software tailored for highly efficient airborne lidar data processing. Compared to our older lidR software, lasR offers similar tools but is significantly more powerful and efficient. It enables the creation of complex processing pipelines and can handle terabytes of data with ease, making it an ideal production tool that is lightning fast.

Target users

The lasR software is a top-tier tool for production. It is (really!) fast and performant. It was designed to create and process complex pipelines on massive datasets. It targets any users who want to process gigabytes or terabytes of data in a reasonable timeframe.

Features

lasR is feature-rich and includes Digital Terrain Models, Digital Surface Models, Individual Tree Segmentation, project file management, ground classification, noise classification, a powerful pipeline engine, and many other tools for point cloud data processing. See the gallery below.

APIs

lasR is standalone software that can be used through different APIs. There are currently two APIs:

  • lasR: The main R package to create pipelines in a programming environment.

  • lasRui: An R package that allows visual programming and execution of pipelines without coding.

Tutorial

We wrote a free online tutorial about lidar data processing with lasR using the R API. This guide is designed to help you get started with lasR, understand how it works, and explore its capabilities. The tutorial is written using the R API.

Documentation

As an R package, lasR meets the high-quality standards imposed by CRAN and is thoroughly documented with copy-pastable examples and embedded datasets, just like any other high-quality R package. You can also access the documentation online.

Pricing

lasR is free and open-source. It costs nothing, and this will never change. We offer services, consulting, and training courses, but our software is free of charge and free to use for any application you see fit. To sustain development, we offer services, but you can also sponsor us.
